Poker3 Heads Up Hold’em is not only incredible to look at, but also one of the easiest online casino games to play. Rather than pitting our wits against other people, as in regular Internet poker, here we go one-on-one against a digital dealer bot. With super simple rules, plenty of fixed betting options, and remarkable 3D graphics, this BetSoft title is a must-try for poker fans and table gamers alike.

What is Heads Up Holdem?
This is a simplified variant of the popular table poker games found at land-based gaming venues all over the world. Like casino hold’em, the game is based on traditional Texas hold’em rules. We receive two hole cards, while five community cards are dealt face up on the table. The aim is to form the best five-card poker hand using any combination of your hole cards and the community cards.
Where Poker3 Heads Up differs from standard holdem poker is that instead of competing against other players, we play against the house – like in blackjack, roulette, or any other classic table game. This makes it a much easier game to understand on a basic level, as it dispenses with tricky concepts like reverse implied odds, position-based hand strategy, and intuiting different players’ decision-making and tactics.
Most styles of real money casino holdem feature distinctive betting rules, usually with an optional side bet which awards a bonus when you draw Aces or better on the flop. Online Heads Up Holdem is even simpler than games such as Ultimate Texas Hold’em, while retaining more characteristics of normal poker play. This makes it one of the easiest games to learn in any Internet casino, especially for anyone with even the crudest understanding of holdem poker rules.

How to Play Poker3 Online
The first decision you have to make in Heads Up Holdem poker is which chip size to bet with. BetSoft has catered for all types of Aussie gamblers here, with no less than 16 bet levels available – starting at $0.20 and maxing out at $500. This makes the Poker3 real money holdem game a great option for hi-stakes poker players, while remaining perfectly accessible to casual punters and players with more modest bankrolls.
At this stage, we can also choose which 3D character to face off against. This guy will act as the dealer. However, instead of stereotypical casino croupiers uniformed in shirt and waistcoat, our four possible adversaries represent the kinds of folks you would see alongside you at the tables: from the sharply dressed shark, to guys sporting T-shirts, sunglasses, and headphones. This, along with the cinematic quality of the animations, gives the game more of a live poker feel than other holdem-style casino games.
Ante & Pre-Flop
When you’ve chosen your chips and picked your opponent, it’s time to play. Each round starts with both parties putting up the ante – an obligatory one-unit bet which ensures there is something in the pot for each hand. Then we are each dealt two hole cards, and the first betting round ensues. This is called “the pre-flop”. The player always makes the first move, with two options: call or fold. Call to make a one-unit bet, which the dealer must either match or else discard his hand. If you fold, you concede the hand and thus lose your ante to the house.
The Flop

If both player and dealer decide to bet on the initial hand, we then proceed to “the flop”. Here, the first three community cards are dealt face up on the table. Once again, we must choose whether to bet one unit or to fold. If you make the wager and the house calls, then we continue on to the third phase.
The Turn
The last two betting rounds are effectively identical. If nobody folds on the flop, we head to what is known as “the turn”. The fourth community card is revealed, and we must decide whether to bet again or fold. But whereas the call wager was only a single unit in the first two rounds, here we must fork over two units if we wish to stay in the hand.
The River
If both sides stump up the two-unit bet, then we move on to the last betting stage: “the river”. The fifth and final community card is dealt, and once again we have the option to either fold or to bet another two units. If player and dealer each take the call, then it’s time to lay down our cards. Whomever has the strongest five-card poker hand wins the pot. If there is a tie (i.e. all five active cards are of the same rank), then the hand is a push and the kitty is halved.

Hold’em Poker Strategy & House Edge
While the gameplay rules in BetSoft’s Poker3 Heads Up Holdem are as straightforward as it gets, figuring out the ideal strategy and chances of long-term success is a much more puzzling affair. This is because the computerised dealer is allowed to bet and fold, going turn for turn with the player. This is never the case in standard online casino hold’em and other poker-based table games, where we play out our hand before the dealer simply turns up their cards.

The problem is this: whereas in real money blackjack and most other casino games we know what the dealer can and cannot do, here it is very difficult to determine how the house will react in any given situation. You only have to play a few hands to realise the AI dealer does not follow ideal Texas holdem strategy, which means you would have to analyse thousands upon thousands of hands to get even a rudimentary idea of the computer’s decision-making process. As such, this makes it nigh-on impossible to formulate a comprehensive strategy guide for Heads Up Hold’em poker. It also means trying calculate the house edge becomes a matter of pure guesswork.

What we can tell you is this: the fact the dealer always goes second gives the casino a big advantage, as it never has to bet or fold first. And while we may not have a complete Poker3 Heads Up strategy to work off, many of the golden rules of Texas hold’em poker still apply here. Never go in on an offsuit 7-2 split, chase a closed straight on the river at your peril, don’t be precious about a low pair when the flop turns up high cards – these mantras and many more will still serve you well.
